Puerto del Carmen
Although the resort has grown over the last twenty years — it now stretches along the whole 6 kilometres of golden sandy beaches — the town has been saved from the high-rise buildings that blight so many other destinations due to the strict planning restrictions.
The main street The Aviendas stretches 5 miles along the coast with lovely clean sandy beaches on one side and plenty of restaurants, bars and shops running along the other side. The largest beach on the Island Playa Grande lies on this stretch of coast. Take an early morning or sunset stroll along the beach or maybe just bask in the sun, all the beaches along this stretch of coast fly the Blue Flag awarded by the EU for cleanliness. The beaches are well maintained, cleaned regularly and offer all of the usual facilities, such as loungers, sun shades and toilets.
Golden Sandy Beaches
The warm waters of the Atlantic that surround the beaches are considered to be some of the most tranquil in the Canary Islands and are excellent for swimming and other water sports.
The quaint and peaceful old town is a pretty little fishing port and has lots of lovely local restaurants with terraces overlooking the marina and the sea, offering views of the Papagayo mountains and the island of Fuerteventura.
The Most Tranquil Canary Island
Puerto del Carmen is nestled on the coast in the southern part of the beautiful volcanic Island of Lanzarote only a short 10 minute drive from the airport. It is the main and busiest tourist town on the island offering a huge variety of restaurants, bars and shops as well as being a great place to explore the Island and all the cultural and tourist attractions it has to offer.
